Abstract

The 2022 Revised Korean Language Curriculum emphasizes communication and participation as the core values of literature education. However, an examination of the mythic texts included in middle and high school Korean language and literature textbooks developed under this curriculum reveals that myths are still employed mainly as standardized materials for knowledge- and comprehension-centered learning activities, continuing the tendencies of the 2015 curriculum. Consequently, the practical and performative values of literature are not sufficiently actualized in classroom instruction. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes the recontextualization of myths as relational narratives that embody literary communication and as fluid narratives suitable for interactive, media-based creative practices. This perspective aims to align mythology education with the 2022 curriculum’s vision of communicative, participatory, and performative literacy, reaffirming the pedagogical significance of classical literature in contemporary media environments.
