Abstract
Using the 8th Korea Labor & Income Panel Study(KLIPS), this research estimated the determinants of union membership and the size of union representational gap in Korea. Based on the statistical result on the employees' determinants of union membership in nonunion firms, the younger, male, and nonstandard workers' determinants of union membership were more significant rather than the aged, female, and standard workers. Similarly, in case of the union representational gap caused by the insufficiency of union supplies, male, the younger, and nonstandard employees were found to be more significant. If the union supplies were sufficient enough to satisfy the condition of the frustrated demand for union, the maximum value of unionization rate in Korea was forecast to be 45.9 percent which exceeded the current unionization rate by three and a half times approximately. This result suggests significant implications for the unionization related outlook in the future.
