본 연구에서는 고용감축 폭에 따라 기업을 크게 대규모 감축, 중대규모 감축, 중소규모 감축, 소규모 감축 4개로 구분하고, 고용감축 이후 6년간의 경영성과를 추적하였다. 고용조정의 평균적인 효과를 추정한 결과 1-2년동안은 대규모 감축이 기업성과에 부정적으로 작용을 하며, 3년 이후에는 효과가 불분명하였다. 그리고 비조건부 분위회귀 분석방법을 사용하여 수익률이나 생산성 분포의 분위별로 고용조정의 효과가 어떻게 다른지를 추정한 결과, 수익률이 음인 상황에서는 대규모 감축이 기업성과에 매우 부정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper estimates the effects of employment downsizing on firm's performance. For that, I divide firms into four categories according to the size of employment downsizing: large, middle-large, middle-small, small downsizing. And I follow up each firm's performance for 6 years after the employment downsizing. The estimation on mean effects shows that the large employment downsizing has negative effects on firm's performance in the short run. The effects do not show clear patterns in the long run. Unconditional quantile regression results show that the large employment downsizing has big negative effects when the firm's profit is negative.
