중등교육이 공공봉사동기에 미치는 영향 분석

초록

이 연구에서는 중·고등학교의 학교교육이 공공봉사동기(public service motivation)에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 중등교육의 변화 방향을 논의하고자 한다. 한국교육개발원이 수행한 「한국교육종단연구2005」의 다년도(3차∼6차) 종단면적 조사결과를 활용하여, 중학교와 고등학교에서의 학교교육만족도, 학교폭력, 교사와 학생 간의 관계, 교사의 열의가 학생의 공공봉사동기에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 구조방정식모형(SEM)을 활용하여 분석한 결과, 중학교에서의 교사의 열의, 고등학교에서의 학교교육만족도, 교사와 학생 간의 관계, 교사의 열의는 공공봉사동기에 긍정적이고 유의미한 영향을 나타냈으나 중·고교에서의 학교폭력은 유의미한 관계를 보이지 않았다. 이 결과와 최근의 선행연구들을 함께 논의하면서, 공공봉사동기 증진을 위한 우리나라 중등교육의 변화 방향으로 수업에서의 협동학습 활용, 창의적 체험활동의 내실 있는 운영, 교사의 적극적 역할 수행을 위한 지원의 필요성을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of secondary school education on public service motivation (PSM) and discuss the change directions of secondary education in Korea. This study investigates the effects of school education satisfaction, school violence, teacher-student relationship, and teacher’s enthusiasm perceived by students in middle and high schools on public service motivation, using the four waves of longitudinal data (3rd~6th survey) of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study 2005 and applying structural equation model (SEM). It finds that teacher’s enthusiasm in middle schools, and school education satisfaction, teacher-student relationship, and teacher’s enthusiasm in high schools have positive and significant effects on students’ PSM but school violence in both middle and high schools is not significantly related to PSM. Discussing the findings of this study and previous studies, it suggests that, as the change directions of secondary education, collaborative learning in classes, substantial operation of creative experiential learning activities, and support for teachers to perform their roles actively are important to enhancing PSM.
