본 연구는 동물실험 및 동물실험기관에 대한 국민 인식이 동물실험 법제도 신뢰와의 상관성, 영향성을 파악함에 있다. 농림축산식품부의 ‘2020년 동물보호에 대한 국민의식조사’ 설문자료를 이용하여 성향점수매칭, 상관분석 및 다항로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 4,196개의 표본 중 성향점수매칭으로 교란변수가 제어된 1,184개 표본이 추출되었다. 추출된 표본으로 상관분석을 한 결과 동물실험 및 동물실험기관에 대한 국민 인식은 동물실험 법제도 신뢰와 통계적으로 유의한 상관성을 나타내었다. 또한, 다항로지스틱 회귀분석 결과 국민 인식은 동물실험 법제도 신뢰에 통계적으로 유의한 영향성을 나타내었다. 본 연구를 통해 법제도 신뢰를 제고하기 위해 동물사용의 정당성과 윤리성에 대한 사회적 소통, 동물실험의 정보 공개와 공공성 확보, 동물실험기관의 동물복지 강화 및 동물실험에 규정된 규칙 이행이 중요함을 확인하였다. 동물실험은 생명윤리 논란의 중심에 있는 주요 주제로서, 본 연구는 국민 인식을 분석하여 법제도 신뢰에 미치는 영향성을 확인함으로 연구의 폭을 확장하였다는 학술적 의미를 갖으며, 동물실험 관련 정부 정책에 요구되는 사항을 확인한 실무적 의미를 갖는다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the correlation and influence of the public's perception of animal testing and animal testing institutions with trust in the animal testing legal system. Propensity score matching, correlation analysis, and multinomial logistic regression analysis were performed using the survey data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs ‘People’s Awareness Survey on Animal Protection in 2020’. Of the 4,196 samples, 1,184 samples with confounding variables controlled by propensity score matching were extracted. As a result of correlation analysis with the extracted samples, the public perception of animal testing and animal testing institutions showed a statistically significant correlation with trust in the animal testing legal system. In addition, as a result of multinomial logistic regression analysis, public perception showed a statistically significant effect on trust in the animal testing legal system. Through this study, it was confirmed that social communication on the justification and ethics of animal use, disclosure of information about animal testing and securing publicity, strengthening of animal welfare of animal testing institutions, and implementing the rules stipulated in animal testing are important. Animal testing is a major topic at the center of controversy over bioethics, and this study has an academic meaning that expands the scope of research by analyzing public perception and confirming the impact on legal system trust, and has a practical meaning in confirming the necessary effort on government policies related to animal testing. Lastly, the government's public awareness survey regarding animal testing should continue, and follow-up studies such as tracking changes in perceptions will be needed.
