고교유형과 학교교육경험의 차이가 학생들의 가치관 변화에 미치는 영향

고교유형이 다양화되고 학교선택권이 확대되면서 재학하는 학교유형에 따라 학생들이 상이한 교육과정과 학교풍토를 경험하고, 이러한 경험의 차이가 학생들의 가치관 변화에 영향을 줄 가능성이 커지고 있다. 이러한 가정 아래 이 논문에서는 고교유형별로 학생들의 배경적 특성이 어떻게 다른지, 학교교육경험에 대한 인식에 어떠한 차이가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 그리고 고교유형에 따른 집단화와 교육경험의 차이가 학생들의 가치관 변화에 미치는 영향을 탐색하기 위해 고교유형별로 학생들의 중학교시기의 가치관이 고등학교시기에 어떻게 변화하는지를 분석하였다. 분석자료는 한국교육종단연구의 1차~6차년도 자료를, 분석방법은 기술통계, 집단별 분산분석, 다층성장모형을 활용하였다. 분석결과, 고교진학 이후 학생들은 학교유형별로 학업능력과 가정배경에 따라 집단화되어 있었고 교우관계, 수업태도, 교사학생관계, 학교폭력, 입시부담감 등 학교경험에 대해 상이하게 인식하고 있었다. 그리고 전반적으로 꾸준한 직업과 일에서의 성공 같은 외적 가치를 가장 중시하는 가운데, 중학교시기에 형성한 가치의 우선순위가 대체로 유지되었다. 그러나 진학한 고교유형에 따라 다양한 가치에 부여하는 중요도가 달라지고 있어 학생들의 가치관 변화에 미치는 고교유형의 영향을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
The diversification of high school types in accordance with the school choice policy has been stratified the secondary school system of Korea for the last few years. Such stratification in high school system affects values and attitude of students as well as their academic achievements. In oder to examine the influence of the diversification on high school students’ values, we examined how their values had been changed by high school type compared to those in middle school years. For this purpose, we analyzed longitudinal data from Korean Educational Longitudinal Study by the Korean Educational Development Institute, using multi-level piecewise growth model. The study revealed that students regarded extrinsic values like ‘success at work’ more important than intrinsic values like ‘help other people’ in general and the priority pattern formed in middle school years were not changed. However, the differences in the value priority of students according to the school types which they attended verified the impact of the school type on students’ value changes.
