Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristic changes in infection control in elderly care facilities in our society compared to the previous one after COVID-19. Based on two survey data surveyed before and after COVID-19 in Goyang City, where elderly care facilities are most concentrated, the relative effects of infection control practices and social capital on infection control were compared. As a result of the analysis, ① both infection control practices and social capital had a positive effect on infection control, but in terms of the degree of impact, social capital was larger than infection control practices. ② Both before and after COVID-19, infection control practices had a great influence on infection control action, and social capital had a greater influence on infection control interest and willingness to improve. This trend has been strengthened through COVID-19. ③ In the influence of each variable on infection control, the network variable has the greatest effect on interest in infection control and the willingness to improve infection control practice. What is peculiar is that the designation of an infection manager did not affect infection control after Corona, infection education did not affect infection control perception, and despite the increase in the network in the facility, trust decreased, and the impact of trust on infection control was very weak. Based on these results, this study discussed some tasks necessary for improving infection control in elderly care facilities in our society.
