Abstract

This study aims to clarify the status of infection control and effect of infection education in the social welfare facility. For this purpose, we focus to find what are the characteristic differences on the infection control between the social welfare facility and hospital. Social welfare facility is classified into two types that are long-term care facility(LTCF) and assisted living facility(ALF) for the elderly and disabled person. Equivalent to these types of Social welfare facilities, two types of hospitals as a comparative criteria are selected that are named by sanatorium hospital and geriatric hospital instead of a general hospital. Based on the survey data from 726 workers of the hospital, LTCF, ALF at the north kyeonggi province, we find following results. ① The social welfare facility’s comprehensive levels of infection control indicate 95% in comparing to the hospital’s levels. The levels of LTCF and ALF indicate 98.6% and 93.2% separately comparing to those of hospital. Especially, spheres of individual hygiene and patient management appear low. ② The infection education is positive effects on the infection control. There are differences in performances between workers who have received education and those who have not. Also we find that the effect of infection education in the social welfare facility is greater than that of the hospital. ③ Infection education is more needed to men, the younger, certified care workers and certified social welfare workers, managers than any other workers in the social welfare facility. In contrast to good performance of hospital managers, social welfare facility managers reveal bad performances both levels of infection control and effect of infection education. From these results, this paper discusses research implications for further research.
