지금까지 우리나라에서 토론교육은 주로 ‘지식’과 ‘논리’를 강조하는 관점에 입각해 왔다. 하지만 이 글은 우리의 토론이 질적 발전을 이루기 위해서는 무엇보다도 토론교육의 본질적 목적을 의사소통이라는 지점에 맞추어야 한다고 주장한다. 그러면서 이 글은 토론의 철학적 기초에 대한 논의를 통해 ‘이성주의와 감성주의’, ‘화자 중심과 청자 중심’의 대립을 넘어선 ‘공감’과 ‘소통’에 입각한 토론문화 발전의 필요성을 역설하고, 그에 입각하여 우리의 토론교육이 어떤 방향과 과제를 안고 있는지를 논의하고 있다. 구체적으로는 토론과정에 대한 참여의 동등성 확보, 가치 준거의 설정과 생각의 표현, 가치갈등의 해결과 의사결정능력 제고라는 과제를 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
Up to the present, the educations of debates have focused on thedevelopment of the knowledge and logic. But this essay argues thatwe have to aim at ‘the communication’ based on ‘the empathy’among the people as the essential goal of the educations of debates. It discusses several problems about the educations of debates on theground of such viewpoint. And it proposes these: (1)the equalparticipation at the debates, (2)the establish qualification of a standardof value and power of expression, (3)the settlement of valueconfliction and improvement of the decision-making.
