Abstract

A Study on the Positive and Negative Effect of the Use of Loan Words and the Plan for the Acception of Those Choi, Kyeong-bong The purpose of this paper is to examine the positive and negative effect of the use of loan words and to propose a plan for the language policy and the language education. For this purpose I evaluated the policy of language refinement firstly. In chapter Ⅱ, I pointed out the ideological problems of the language refinement movement. Historically the policy of language refinement payed no attention to linguistic aspects because the policy of the language refinement was the political movement. In this circumstance, though loan words increased in our language we couldn't prepare for education of loan words, because loan words was the language forms that had to refine. In chapter Ⅲ, I examined the positive and negative effects of the use of the loan words. The positive effect was the expansion of language expressions and the negative effect was the inefficiency in communication. In chapter Ⅳ, I proposed the plan for the language policy and the language education. The plans for the language policy were ‘the choice and education of basic loan words', ‘the survey and evaluation of international expressions', and ‘the survey of loan words in Korean'. The plans for the language education were the semantical and pragmatical education for the exact use of loan words.
