본고는 國語 被動의 개념을 다시 定立하고 피동 현상을 識別할 수 있는 기준을 세우는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 그동안 피동의 예외적인 현상으로 기술되어 온 문장들에 주목하여 이들의 피동 여부를 판별할 것이다. 피동은 汎言語的으로 존재하는 현상이므로 국어의 피동 역시 이러한 피동의 특성을 바탕으로 기술되어야 한다.특히 본고는 국어의 典型的인 피동문으로 알려진 ‘-히-’계 접미사 구성을 대상으로 논의하였다. 이때 특히 피동문과 能動 對當文의 관계, 행위자의 존재 여부를 기준으로 하여 문제를 고찰하였다. 이러한 예외적인 구문 중 행위자가 존재하지 않거나 존재하지만 主語와 동일한 경우, 주어의 屬性을 나타내는 문장은 中動態의 특징을 갖는 문장이다. 국어는 被動과 中動의 형태소가 구별되지 않는 언어로 이는 態의 일반적인 발달 과정을 볼 때 자연스러운 것이다.
Abstract
The aim of this research is to define the concept of the Korean passive by identifying the passive phenomena. For this purpose, I concentrate on the sentences considered as exceptions of passive and examine which belongs to passive. Since passive forms are found cross-linguistically, I argue the Korean passive should be described based on universal characterization of passive. In particular, this paper investigates ‘-hi-' passive suffix constructions, which are considered as canonical passive sentences. I suggest that passive constructions should have the relationship between passive sentences and their corresponding active ones, and an external agent. In terms of these criteria, I argue that the following sentences show characters of middle voice category; the sentences that do not have any agent, or have an agent identified with the subject. This conclusion is in accord with the development of voice.
