Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of the types of questions on reading ability through the experimental process when the Korean is dealt with as a foreign language in reading education and, based on the results drawn from, to suggest the framework of the discussion for efficient reading education. To do so, this paper firstly describes the way the types of questions in the reading education are classified referring to existing discussions about the general reading instruction theory and explains two types of research interests; questions of understanding about text and inferential questions, in detail. The research hypothesis the inferential questions draws out more positive impact on the reading comprehension than the analytical questions is assumed and the two-time experiment with 51 students is conducted to confirm the hypothesis. The results show the inferential questions appear effective so that the students apply such reading strategies as core or comprehensive understanding, goal of the reading, and comprehension monitoring. The significance of this paper is to suggest the question guideline for the teachers to utilize during the reading class.
