Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the deficits of pragmatic understanding and expression who child with high functioning autism (HFA) showed in communication process with a normal child. The subject of this study was a six-years old two HFA. The data were collected by participant observation on communication process among two HFA during spontaneous play of the included classroom of a day care center. The data were analyzed by ethnographic method. The findings were as follows: 1) The HFA subject's pragmatic understanding deficits were found in nonverbal and paralinguistic behaviors, words and sentences, understanding of self, others, and contexts. 2) The HFA subject's pragmatic expression deficits were revealed in nonverbal and paralinguistic behaviors, dialogue-initiation, maintenance and close.
