Abstract

This study aims to examine the associations of job stress, emotional labor and burnout, and to analyze the mediating role of emotional labor among child welfare social workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data were collected from 306 child welfare social workers in Jeonnam region. Multiple Regression Analysis and Sobel Test were applied to analyze the data. It was found that Job stress, emotional labor, and burnout were all significantly higher for social workers who worked directly with children during COVID-19 pandemic. The results of the study indicated that there were statistically significant relationships among job stress, emotional labor, and burnout among social workers. Specifically, emotional labor was significantly and positively associated with both job stress and burnout. In addition, emotional labor had a partially mediating effect on the relationship between job stress and burnout among social workers. Based on the result of this study, possible implications for reducing the job stress, emotional labor and burnout among social workers were provided.
