Abstract

Parks play a crucial role in revitalizing urban green spaces by providing health and recreation for urban residents. Resting spaces in parks can also support this role by applying ‘Biophilic Design’. This study aims to propose a new form of pergola that applies biophilic design centered on Busan Citizens’ Park. In order to conduct the research, biophilic design elements and pergola design elements were developed based on previous studies. Then, after categorizing the pergolas in Busan Citizens’ Park into three types and identified the current status through the two elements. This study proposed a pergola design that supplemented the deficiencies identified in the current status, and conducted a self-assessment and survey evaluation of the design. The results of the self-assessment and survey evaluation were similar, and it was found that the design prototype reflected 'moderate' or better in both elements. It is significant that this study proposes the design of public facilities that support the role of parks while providing a positive image of the city. This study provides a basis for the design of public facilities for the upcoming development of not only parks but also various public spaces.
