Abstract

This study aims to investigate the design evaluation of urban parks for spatial welfare. Spatial welfare encompasses the spatiotemporal concept, incorporating the spatial dimension of space and the temporal dimension of well-being. In this research, we plan the design of parks with a sense of place by introducing a temporal concept that enables the continuous utilization by all citizens. The summarized process is as follows. In the case of Jeonju City, it is confirmed that securing the public nature of parks is urgently needed, as over 34% of the parks are aged and require renovation. The study focuses on neighborhood parks located within residential areas, which play a crucial role as easily accessible spaces for daily activities, as well as provide a restful and healing environment for citizens. Through literature research, we are analyzing and summarizing the concept of spatial welfare, the relationship between spatial welfare and urban parks, and various aspects related to urban parks. Following this, we have selected experts and are conducting a Delphi survey in three stages to derive evaluation factors for park design. Based on the results of this study, we hope to improve the aged parks and transform them into public facilities that have organic relationships with various everyday spaces and can be safely utilized. We aim for these parks to become spaces that can be continuously enjoyed by many citizens. However, it should be noted that the study is limited to specific neighborhood parks in a particular area, and the research methods and observation periods are also limited. Therefore, further discussions and subsequent studies are necessary to assess the applicability of these findings in real-life situations. We look forward to future research in this regard.
