본고는 시사 토론의 대화 자료를 바탕으로 토론 참여자들 사이에서 나타나는 타인 발화 반복의 양상을 관찰하여 그 유형을 분류하고, 구정보와 신정보 사이에서 반복의 기능을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 타인 발화 반복은 대화 참여자 간에 발언 순서 교대(turn-taking)가 일어난 후 화자가 타인의 선행 발화 중에서 기억에 남아 있는 구정보에 초점을 맞춰 복원하는 행위이다. 이는 [화자1{구정보(A+B)}→화자2{신정보(A´+C)}]와 같이 ‘화자1→화자2’로 진행되는 발언 순서(turn)의 거시적인 틀 안에서 {A→A´}의 형태로 반복되는 구조를 보인다. ‘화자1→화자2’의 발언 순서가 진행되는 동안 나타나는 타인 발화에 대한 반복의 유형은 반복의 원천이 되는 요소(A)와 반복이 실현된 요소(A´)의 의미적 측면을 중심으로 ‘초점화 반복, 동일 반복, 요약 반복, 확대 반복’으로 구분된다. 다음으로, 화자2가 구정보 A를 A´로 반복한 의도와 그 결과는 신정보 C의 구성에 영향을 미친다. 이에 반복의 기능은 ①구정보를 해석하는 과정에서 사용되는 기능, ②신정보의 생성에 관여하는 기능, ③토론이 진행되는 과정에서 발생하는 메타적 기능으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 각각의 기능은 토론 참여자의 역할 및 관계에 따라 전략적으로 사용된다.
Abstract
Thisstudyaimstoobserveandclassifytypesofrepetitionofother’s speechamongdebateparticipants,basedonconversationdataofacurrent affairsdebate,and to analyzefunctionsofrepetition between given informationandnewinformation.Repetitionofother’sspeechistofocus onandrestoregiveninformationremaininginmemoriesaboutpreceding speech,afterturn-takingofstatementofconversationparticipants. Itisrepeatedintheformof{A→A´}withinthemacroscopicframeof turn-takingprogressingfrom ‘Speaker1→Speaker2’like[Speaker1{old information(A+B)}→Speaker 2{new information(A´+C)}]. While the statementisprogressingfrom‘Speaker1→Speaker2’,repetitionofother’s speechisdividedinto‘FocusedRepetition,IdenticalRepetition,Summary RepetitionandExpandedRepetition’,concentratingonsemanticaspectsof anelement(A)whichisthesourceofrepetition,andanelement(A´)that realizesit.Next,whenSpeaker2repeatedoldinformation,AasA´,it affectedcompositionofnewinformation,C.
