초록
This is a study on the military costume and its reform during the reign of King Jeong-Jo(r. 1776-1800). We come to understand the characteristics and trends of changes in military costume during the period. The military costume during the reign of King Jeong-Jo includes yoongbok, goonbok and gapju for the military personnels in general, jeon-geon and ho-ui for the foot-soldiers, yu-ui and ji-ui for cold days, and yoosam for rainy days. In the literary sense, there is no difference between yoongbok and goonbok even though there were a few distinctions in practical uses. However, this distinction between yoongbok and goonbok became unnoticeable as time went on. As a result, this had evoked discussions on the abolishment of yoongbok. To some extent, King Jeong-Jo had an intention toward the harmony of the civil and military administrations in his government and worked for the reform of the military costume system. This reform became a standard of the future military costume for the next half century.
