초록

This paper aims to provide in-depth knowledge about egophoricity based on accumulated findings in a wide range of preceding and contemporary publications. In the first part of this paper, egophoricity is carefully examined in three different ways focusing on the concept of ‘self.’ In order to understand the category of egophoricity more clearly, the second part brings literature into the discussion that deals with egophoricity along with other categories such as evidentiality, mirativity, person reference, and logophoricity. This is followed by looking at egophoricity and all potentially related categories under one concept, that is, the epistemic perspective. After examining previous studies, we will suggest what should be considered to discover further examples of egophoricity. This paper contributes to ongoing scholarly discussions in two ways. First, this article offers a thorough preliminary study that paves the way for future research projects, such as identifying egophoric phenomena in Korean. Second, this paper can be regarded as a part of the movement in which hearers are back to being considered along with speakers as an influential factor in describing grammatical properties.
