본고는 ‘한시를 시조의 형태로 번역한 시조역 작품’의 제반 양상과 특성 그리고 지금껏 잘 논의되지 않았던 미발굴 작품에 대해서 고찰한 논고이다. 한시를 시조로 번역한 작품은 대개 그것이 번역시임을 밝히지 않았기에, 번역시인 줄 모르고 읽히는 시들이 많다. 번역시조는 창작 시조와는 분명히 그 성격과 가치가 다른 것이기에, 그 작품의 진위 여부를 밝히는 것은 시조 연구에 있어 필수적으로 선행되어야 할 작업이다. 이에 필자는 기존에 알려진 시조역 작품들의 번역상의 여러 특징과 유형을 살핌과 아울러 밝혀지지 않은 새로운 작품들을 찾아내어 조명하였다. 그 결과 한시와 시조는 형식적 특성이 달라 번역 과정에서 의역과 번역자의 개입이 많으며, 그것이 어떻게 이루어지는지 구체적으로 고찰할 수 있었다. 또 중국의 유명 한시뿐 아니라, 우리나라 한시 작품을 대상으로 번역한 작품도 적지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 한편 이런 내용은 한시와 시조의 교류 양상과 친연성을 보다 폭넓게 이해하는 데도 도움을 줄 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
This study intends to explore various aspects and characteristics of 'Sijoyeok works translating Chinese poetry, Hansi, into a form of Sijo, a Korean verse' and to bring the hidden works out into light. Such products did not identify themselves as translated ones, so people have read them without knowing their original poems. Since translated poems have quite different features and values from creative ones, pinpointing their authentic truth must be preceded prior to studying Sijo. For this, this study not only analyzes various translating features and types of well-known Sijoyeok works but also lights on new pieces that have been hidden so far. As a result, it finds out because Hansi and Sijo have different formal features, the translation process often allowed translators' free translations and interventions, the process of which are also specifically analyzed in this paper. In addition, it reveals there exist quite a few works translating Korean Hansi as well as China's famous Hansi. Such findings of the study are expected to contribute to widely appreciating exchanging aspects and familiarity between Hansi and Sijo.
