Abstract

This study is to review the current status of Chinese characters using the digital tools outside the school in the fourth industrial revolution times, and then to consider the future direction of Chinese characters education. First, it finds the current education situation about VOD(video on demand), on-line video lecture, application in terms of digital education methods. Generally the education program of Chinese characters is being executed sporadically. The demand of Chinese characters is limited, as the time passes by, Korean and English education has been becoming the main concern of general education, so general concern of people about Chinese characters is being reduced. Today there are to be found mostly the contents for practical Chinese characters or just for rating, and more uncertain contents operators of not having professional education skill. In this current situations, the role and position of Association of Traditional Culture Study and Institute of Translation of Korean Classics are so unique and important. Upon this basic research, it is to be found the future direction to spread more widely the practical use of Chinese characters specially outside the school, in this digital times. First it finds the features of Chinese characters education outside the school and the future education direction. Firstly the experts of Chinese characters having professional education capability should go out of the school and communicate with people for educating and sharing the value of Chinese characters. Secondly, the final goal of Chinese characters is to be the education of humanities. The Chinese characters education should go further for humanities consideration contained, written in Chinese classics and for education of East Asia’s spirits in terms of its own position and high value. As in real inside the school now they focus mostly on Korean, English and mathematics, Chinese characters education is to be considered this mentioned future direction for revealing its own position and value. Thirdly, teachers and professors of Chinese characters should accept this actively changing time and trends, apply for new teaching paradigm. They should appreciate Metaverses and consider how to use Metaverses for future generation. This initial study and approach might be a good turning point to pay attention to study Chinese characters education outside the school.
