초록

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a possibility of classifying in patterns of syntax of indirect passive constructions of transitive verbs, which have adversity meaning. Analysis, which is based on corpus (which is composed of 44 modern Japanese novels, and BCCWJ), is focused on so-called “Categorical Meaning” (OKUDA 1974, 1976, HAYATSU 2009, etc.) and on semantic relevance between subject and complement of passive sentences. The classification suggested in this paper, which is based on Categorical Meaning of Passive verbs; [animate subject(ga-kaku) - animate agent(ni-kaku) - inanimate object(wo-kaku) – passive verb of acquisition] [animate subject(ga-kaku) - animate agent(ni-kaku) - animate complement(ni-kaku) - inanimate object(wo-kaku) – passive verb of comunication] [animate subject(ga-kaku) - animate agent(ni-kaku) - inanimate complement(ni-kaku) - passive verb of adhesion] We suggest that the reading of adversity meaning in sentences above depends on different backgrounds, that is, the semantic relevance between subject and complement in each sentence. The result of our experiment may show that classifying in patterns of syntax of indirect passive constructions provides clues to find out requirements for adversity meaning in other passive constructions.
