미얀마인 학습자들의 한국어 이중모음 오류 분석 - 음절구조와 분절음 내적 구조 차이를 중심으로 -

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the errors made by Myanmar learners in producing Korean diphthongs based on differences in the syllable structures of the two languages and element theory. When Korean diphthong input is given, Myanmar learners reanalyze and adjust it based on their internal representation of the Myanmar syllable structure and vowel system and then output it. In Korean, glides precede a single vowel and are connected to the nucleus, but in Myanmar language, glides are syllableized into onset. This difference is a significant cause of Korean diphthong errors among Myanmar learners. These errors appeared primarily as vowel substitution, deletion, and structural reinterpretation. First, the errors in which vowels were replaced were due to the difference in the internal structure of the vowels in interpreting the Korean back vowels as front vowels. The difference in the internal composition of the back vowels in Korean and Myanmar influenced the vowel production. Furthermore, there were cases where only short vowels were realized because the glide was eliminated. These errors appear when the preceding glide of single vowels in Korean is deleted because the light diphthong in Korean does not exist in Myanmar. Moreover, various errors were observed for the Korean /ɨj/. Due to the difference between the diphthong systems in Korean and Myanmar, it could be analyzed that the glide was deleted and only the single vowel was left, or both the single vowel and the glide were interpreted independently to realize them as a series of vowels.
