慣用句(idiom)は、表面的な言語形式とその表現全体が持つ概念の対応関係が不透明であるため、第二言語(以下L2)学習における大きな障壁と言われている。本研究では、学習者の母語(以下L1)との対応がその意味の推測の成功に影響を及ぼすか質問紙調査を行い検証した。日本語慣用句を「言語形式が対応している表現がL1に存在しているかどうか」と「概念を共有している表現や文化がL1に存在しているかどうか」という観点から4つに分類し意味推測をさせた結果、正答率は「形式○概念○」「形式×概念○」「形式○概念×」「形式×概念×」の順となり、各タイプ間に有意差が見られた。特に概念○の2タイプが概念×に比べて著しく正答率が高く、L1における概念の有無が意味推測に大きく影響することが示された。
