오늘날 활발한 국제 교류는 다양한 외래어의 유입을 가져오고 있으며, 일본어는 일제강점기의 영향으로 한국어에 깊이 정착된 외래어 중 하나다. 이후 국어 순화 정책으로 일부 표현이 대체되었지만, 최근 디지털 매체 확산과 한일 간 문화 교류로 인해 새로운 일본어계 단어들이 다시 사용되고 있다. 본 연구는 2020년 이후 『우리말샘』에 등재된 일본어계 단어를 중심으로 한국 대학생의 사용 실태와 인식을 분석하였으며, 그 결과 일본어계 외래어가 단순 차용을 넘어 문화적 상징이나 유희적 표현으로 활용되고 있음을 밝혔다. 이는 젊은 세대의 언어문화 변화와 외래어 수용 태도 전환을 보여주는 지표로서, 언어 접촉과 변화 양상에 대한 이해도를 높이는 데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
In contemporary society, active international exchanges have led to the influx of various foreign words, with Japanese being one of the most deeply rooted sources of loanwords in Korean due to the influence of the Japanese colonial period. Although many of these expressions were later replaced through national language purification policies, the recent proliferation of digital media and increased cultural exchange between Korea and Japan have contributed to the renewed usage of Japanese-derived terms. This study focuses on Japanese-origin words newly registered in WooriMalSaem since 2020, analyzing their usage and perception among Korean university students. The findings indicate that such loanwords are not merely borrowed lexically but are being recontextualized as cultural symbols or playful expressions. These results serve as an indicator of changing linguistic practices and attitudes toward foreign elements among younger generations, and they contribute to a deeper understanding of language contact and linguistic change.
