Abstract
Bali et al. (2011) reported that investors overestimate stocks with the maximum return(MAX) and have low future returns. Barberis et al. (2016) argued that investors evaluate stocks based on the Prospect theoretical value (TK) derived from the distribution of stock returns in the past. As a result, investors overestimated stocks with high TKs, resulting in low future returns. Based on the above research, this study presents evidence against traditional asset pricing models in the domestic stock market. According to the Korean Securities Market and the KOSDAQ market, both phenomena have occurred. In particular, the two phenomena are evident in risk-adjusted return. This is a phenomenon that cannot be explained by traditional asset pricing models and is evidence that investors tend to make investment decisions based on past returns. This phenomenon has consistent results even after controlling the firm-specific characteristics, the size of markets, consumer psychological indexes, etc. Thus, investors consider the distribution of historical returns in their investment decisions, suggesting that the psychological factors of the investors affect asset pricing decisions.
