Abstract
This paper examines whether there exist different investor clientele between overnight and intraday periods, focusing on lottery-type stocks. First, stocks having high overnight (intraday) returns in this month strongly exhibit high overnight (intraday) as well as low intraday (overnight) returns in the following month. Second, negative expected return on lottery-type stocks is mostly attributed to negative intraday return components. Third, lottery-type stocks having high overnight returns in this month tend to be overpriced. However, such overpricing vanishes for those stocks whose price substantially reverse in the daytime. Overall, these results suggest that overnight investors are uninformed investors persistently buying overpriced stocks, whereas intraday investors are arbitragers betting against the uninformed demand going forward.
