Abstract
The objective of the present study was to determine the relation between dance student physical self-efficacy and their department adjustment. That is, we examined how physical self-efficacy (physical efficacy, physical confidence, physical attractiveness) perceived by dance students concerning themselves affects their adjustment to the dance department (adjustment to leaders, adjustment to peers, adjustment to learning, and adjustment to life). For this purpose, we selected 397 students majoring in dance in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do through purposive sampling, and used 388 questionnaires in analysis. Collected data were processed through the generation of basic statistics (means, frequencies), correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Through these research methods and procedures were drawn conclusions as follows. First, among the sub-factors of dance student physical self-efficacy, physical attractiveness had a significant effect on adjustment to leaders. Second, among the sub-factors of dance student physical self-efficacy, physical efficacy, physical confidence, and physical attractiveness had a significant effect on adjustment to peers. Third, among the sub-factors of dance student physical self-efficacy, physical confidence and physical attractiveness had a significant effect on adjustment to learning. Fourth, among the sub-factors of dance student physical self-efficacy, physical efficacy and physical attractiveness had a significant effect on adjustment to life. Summing up the conclusions above, dance student physical self-efficacy was found to be a variable affecting the student department adjustment significantly. This suggests that student physical self-efficacy can bring a positive change to their perception of their body and, consequently, enhance their adaptability to the department.
