Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze social interacting skills of children with autism spectrum participating in arts-integrated activities. To collect data, nonparticipant class observation and interviews were used in a case study. The summary of the results was as follows. First, five social interacting skills were all observed, and among them, reaction to others' behaviors and creative expression were most frequently shown, followed by perception of others' acts, initiation of movement, and exchange of acts. Second, it was found that there was a close relationship between artistic elements in arts-integrated activities and social interacting skills. Especially, familiar materials, a variety of colors, slow and gentle music, and body expression positively affected social interacting skills of children with autism spectrum. Finally, educational elements including enough time of exploration, several options to choose, peer modeling, and reward and compliment made it possible for children with autism spectrum to closely interact with others. It is suggested that a government-supported arts integrated programs with systematic and diverse activities should be developed and provided to promote social interacting skills of children with autism spectrum.
