Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore how the competency-based curriculum emphasizing deeper learning is reflected in the achievement standards of the 2022 Revised Elementary Music Curriculum by utilizing Marzano & Kendall's New Taxonomy of Educational Objectives. The results of the study are as follows. First, the achievement standards are primarily structured around procedural knowl- edge, various levels of cognitive processing. In particular, the performance domain emphasized men- tal and psychomotor procedures, the appreciation domain incorporated informational knowledge fo- cusing on the analysis of musical elements and structures, and the creation domain was designed to foster creativity and self-system thinking. Second, the knowledge processing types covered not only comprehension and analysis but also knowledge utilization, metacognition, and self-system thinking, ensuring that students comprehend concepts and principles while connecting them to their experi- ences for deeper internalization. These findings indicate that the achievement standards of 2022 Revised Elementary Music Curriculum hold significance in promoting deeper learning within a com- petency-based education framework. Based on this, the study suggests the necessity of instructional and assessment strategies that reflect various knowledge types and cognitive levels in music education. Furthermore, continuous empirical research is required to enhance the practical im- plementation of the curriculum in educational settings. This study is expected to serve as a founda- tional resource for designing and implementing curriculum-based music instruction and assessment.
