로마 콘스탄티누스 황제 전·후 시대에 기독교의 유대교 박해

초록

이 논문은 로마 제국 하에서 민중으로 살아온 유대인이 받은 종교적 차별, 박해와 저항, 기독교와 유대교 간 갈등, 기원후 313년 콘스탄티누스 황제(Contantinus Emperor)가 기독교를 승인한 후, 권력을 가진 기독교가 유대교를 차별하고 박해하는 6세기경까지 반유대주의(anti-Judaism)의 기원과 전개, 정책들, 초기 교부들의 반유대주의 사상들을 유대교 적 관점에서 역사적으로 연구하는 것이다. 이 시기 기독교 역사와 신학 연구의 관심 대상에서 벗어나 있던 주제 중 하나는 ‘기독교가 유대교에 가한 박해’이다. 기독교는 국가 종교로 승격한 후 교부들은 교회 권력을 바탕으로, 다른 종교들, 특히 유대교를 차별하고 박해하는 반유대교적 신학을 전방위적으로 펼쳤다. 교부들과 기독교인들은 유대인과 유대교가 예수를 메시아로 인정하지 않고, 예수를 죽인 자들이며 종교라고 보았고, 유대교를 없애고자 법과 행정력을 동원 하여 혐오와 차별, 폭력, 살인으로 일관했고 이를 정당화했다. 기원후 3세기부터 6세기경까지 초기 대다수 교부들은 반유대적 사상으로 일관하며 기독교 신학을 구축해갔다. 초기 교부들의 반유대주의 신학은 기독교 신학의 중심에 위치했고, 중세 신학의 바탕이 되었다. 중세 기독교는 무소불위의 권력으로 유럽에 있는 디아스포라 민중 유대인들을 박해하고 추방했다. 현대사에서 독일 나치스 정권이 유대인 6백만을 학살하는 것에서 그 정점을 이루었다. 콘스탄티누스 이후 기독교는 1600여 년간 민중 유대인을 박해했다. 기독교와 유대교가 첫 단추부터 잘못 끼워진 초기 교부들의 신학을 유대교적 입장에서 재조명할 때, 기독교와 유대교 간의 종교 간 대화가 시작될 것이다.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to contribute to an understanding from a Jewish perspective of Christian anti-semitism before and after Emperor Constantine. The Minjung Jewish underwent religious discrimination and waged wars of resistance against the Roman Empire. Christianity and Judaism continued to clash and collide over issues related to the Messiahship of Jesus, and the killing of Jesus in the context of persecution by Roman authority. However, Emperor Constantine in A.D. 313, legalized Christianity as a religion giving Christianity strong secular power. With this power it discriminated against and persecuted all other religions, especially Judaism, practicing anti-Jewish policies. The early Fathers stood in the center of the persecution of Jews and Judaism, making dogmatic theologies. After Christianity was promoted to a state religion, the Fathers with secular power spread widely anti-Semitic ideas through sermons, state laws for the purpose of the discrimination and persecution of Judaism. Secular power created an attitude of dislike, indifference, and violence toward Jews and Judaism. The early Church Fathers held anti-Semitic attitudes. After Emperor Constantine, the relationship between Christianity and Judaism was thoroughly confrontational. Christians maintained a hostile attitude toward the Jews, advocating for the superiority and victory of Christian truth. The early Fathers provided a foundation for medieval theology to justify the persecution, and deportation of diaspora Minjung Jews from all over Europe. Anti-Semitism reached its peak in the modern history when the German Nazis massacred six million Jews. Christianity persecuted Jews for a period of nearly 1,600 years after Constantine, It is necessary to re-examine the Christian theology from the view point of Minjung Judaism for religious dialogue between Christianity and Judaism.
