Abstract
This essay aims at exploring Hitler's Anti-Jewish policies and the consequential Holocaust. In modern times, about 6 million people of the Jews were sacrificed by Hitler and the Nazis. Why did the major catastrophe strike on the Jews? The reason Hitler detested and massacred Jews and the way he removed them need to be analyzed. Hitler and the Nazis stigmatized Jewish people as an obstacle of German integration, adopted "Anti-Judaism" (Anti-Jewish) policies, and committed genocide. Also, Hitler and the Nazis formulated policy to remove Jewish people on economical grounds. Another cause of the Nazis' Anti-Jewish genocide policy stemmed from Hitler's racism. Hitler and the Germans, by believing in the superiority of the Aryans, used it as a base for Anti-Jewish policy. Though German society and German Christians welcomed Hitler as their messianic leader, the Confessing Church in Germany, with Karl Barth, Martin Niemöller, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer performing key roles, strongly resisted Jewish genocide theologically and ethically. Hitler's war crime and the Holocaust built up the wave of international resentment, and that divided Germany into East and West and afterward got in the way of the unification of Germany. The postwar German Protestants made the Stuttgart Confession that they repented thoroughly of the sins of the German Imperial Church at the time which realigned itself with the act of brutality of Hitler and the Nazis. They purified churches by the work of 'Denazification' and restored trust in German society. German politicians felt deeply the crime and vice of the Holocaust and sought the forgiveness of the international community. The proper knowledge and consciousness of the Germans on history of their own country seemed to remove the obstacle of the unification of Germany.
