Abstract
It is an imminent challenge for Korea to maintain the fiscal stability in an aging society. In this paper, we propose a way of restructuring government expenditure by identifying areas of government expenditure that are underspent or overspent compared to other OECD countries. To this end, we employ a regression model using the principal component analysis method. We find that in terms of percentage of GDP, Korea overspends in areas such as economic affairs, housing and community amenities, health and education, general public services, considering her socio-economic condition. It is a clear indication that Korea needs to find ways to cut expenditures in those areas.
