Abstract
This study compares the perceptions of digital education among pre-service teachers in Korea and the United States. Using survey data collected in 2024 from 126 Korean pre-service teachers and 55 U.S. pre-service teachers, responses were analyzed across eight domains related to digital competence. Both groups viewed artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies as educationally important and necessary for future classroom use. However, the areas they perceived as strengths differed: Korean pre-service teachers reported high perceived value, necessity, and intended use of AI-based digital textbooks and confidence in teaching coding, whereas U.S. pre-service teachers reported higher self-efficacy in designing instruction and assessment with digital tools and greater familiarity with concepts such as generative AI. At the same time, both groups showed relatively low confidence in understanding specific AIDT functions and in programming-related skills, indicating a gap between recognizing the need for such technologies and being ready to implement them in practice.
