Abstract
With the advancement of AI technology, enhancing teachers' AI and digital competencies has become a critical educational priority. In particular, it is essential for pre-service teachers to develop an understanding of AI-based teaching and learning design and the ability to apply it from the early stages of teacher education. This study aimed to develop and implement an educational program to systematically strengthen the AI and digital competencies of pre-service elementary school teachers and to identify areas for improvement. Based on a review of prior studies and an analysis of the needs and competency levels of pre-service teachers, a 15-session program across seven modules was developed and applied to 120 pre-service elementary teachers nationwide. The results showed significant improvement in participants’ competencies, especially in lesson planning, instructional execution, and digital tool use. Satisfaction survey responses indicated high overall satisfaction, highlighting strengths such as practice-oriented activities, curriculum-integrated lesson design, expert instructors, and collaboration. However, areas needing improvement included limited feedback, reduced interaction in online sessions, and time constraints during team projects. This study is meaningful in that it presents a structured educational model tailored to pre-service elementary teachers and offers foundational insights for future teacher training and curriculum development through qualitative analysis.
