본고에서는 ‘대개’의 범주와 그 한정 대상을 고찰해 보고, 그것과 유의 관계에 있는 어휘들과의 비교를 통해 ‘대개’의 기능부담량이 어떠한가를 살폈다. 이로부터 ‘대개’가 보편양화사나 존재양화사와 구별되는 대체양화사라는 점과, 그 한정 대상이, 문장 전체와 연관되는 사태나, 주어와 목적어 같은 특정한 문장성분임을 살펴보았다. 목적어 한정에서 제한되는 모습이 보이는 이유는 ‘대개’가 근본적으로 사태 한정을 강하게 지향하고 있기 때문이라고 설명하였다. 또한 ‘대개’와 유의 관계에 놓인 같은 범주의 대체양화사들인 ‘대략, 대강, 대체로, 거의, 대부분’과의 비교를 통해, ‘대개’가 다른 어휘들에 대해 가지는 시차특성이 무엇인가를 따져 보았다.
Abstract
In this paper, I investigate what is the category of Daegae and what are the objects of its modification. I also research how it divides labor with its related words. Through this paper, it is revealed that Daegae is a quantifier which is different from both a universal quantifier and an existential quantifier. It modifies sentence constituents such as a subject and an object as well as the event of the sentence. Both sentence constituents and an event should be plural. The restricted aspect of the object modification is due to the fact that Daegae is centered on the modification of an event in a sentence. In the end of this paper I show how Daegae divides labor with its related words.
