경찰에 대한 신뢰도 연구는 국·내외에서 다양하게 진행되었다. 하지만, 다른 나라에서 우리나라로 이주한 외국인들의 한국 경찰에 대한 신뢰도를 설명하는 연구는 매우 제한적으로 진행되었다. 본 연구는 국내 거주 외국인들이 인식하는 외국인이라는 집단 지위 인식이 경찰에 대한 신뢰도에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 검증하였다. 이를 위하여 Weitzer(2010)와 Bradford and Jackson(2018)의 연구를 바탕으로 하여 한국에 체류 중인 외국인들의 집단지위 인식 요인인 차별경험인식이 경찰의 신뢰도에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 조사하였다. 또한 국내체류 외국인들의 법에 대한 신뢰가 경찰에 대한 신뢰도에 어떠한 영향을 주는지도 조사하였다. 아홉 개 국가에서 이주한 외국인 1,086명에 대한 설문조사 자료를 분석한 결과 다른 변수들을 통제하고서 집단지위인식 요인인 차별경험인식이 높을수록 경찰에 대한 신뢰도가 유의미하게 낮은 것을 확인하였다. 또한 법에 대한 신뢰도가 높을수록 그리고 무기 소지에 대한 허용도가 낮을수록 한국 경찰에 대한 신뢰도가 유의미하게 높은 것을 확인하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 정책적 제언과 연구의 한계점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Even though the research on the confidence in the police has been done a lot domestically as well as internationally, research on the immigrated foreigner’s confidence in the Korean police is very limited. This research examines how the perception on the group position among foreigners gives influence on the confidence in the police. Based on Weitzer(2010)’s and Bardford and Jackson(2018)’s research, this study examined the influence of discriminated treatment perception as a indicator of group position perception on confidence in the police. Also, confidence in the law and permissive attitude on the weapon possession were included as independent variables in order to explain the confidence in the police. Total 1,086 foreigners from 9 different countries were joined in the survey. According to the analysis results, the perception on the group position (discriminated treatment perception) showed a significantly negative relationship with confidence in the police. Also, as confidence in the law was higher, as the permissive attitude on the weapon possession was lower, the confidence in the police significantly higher among foreigners. Based on the findings, police implications and limitation of the research were discussed.
