Abstract

Along with the increase in the number of foreigners residing in Korea, crimes against foreigners are also increasing and attracting attention. Classical criminological theories say that crime increases because cultural heterogeneity forms their own criminal subculture. However, some studies have shown that demographic attributes do not necessarily lead to crime. For an approach from a different perspective than just demographic attributes, this study studied the influence of domestic and foreign residents on the attitude to use violence, taking into account demographic background, perception of police fairness, and legal cynicism. Multi-group analysis was used as a method to verify the research model. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that both Koreans and foreigners residing in Korea viewed the law cynically when they perceived the police negatively, and as a result, the intention to use violence increased. In this process, it was confirmed that Koreans distrust the law more strongly according to the fairness of the police, but it was not found that foreigners staying in Korea had a higher level of attitude to use violence. Discussions related to this have been described.
