경찰신뢰도가 무질서 인식을 통해 범죄두려움에 미치는 영향: 외국인 밀집지역에서 내국인과 외국인 간 차이를 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 안전감 모형, 무질서 모형, 그리고 취약성 모형에 기반하여 외국인 밀집지역 맥락에서 경찰신뢰도가 무질서 인식을 경유하여 범죄두려움에 미치는 매개효과를 검증하였다. 또한, 이러한 매개효과가 내국인과 외국인 간 어떠한 차이를 나타내는지 분석하였다. 한국 형사·법무정책연구원에서 공개한 외국인 밀집지역 환경 조사(2019) 데이터에 기반한 분석 결과, 경찰신뢰가 무질서인식을 통해 범죄두려움에 미치는 매개효과가 한국인과 외국인 집단 모두에게서 동일한 양상으로 나타났다. 반면, 경찰신뢰가 범죄두려움에 미치는 직접효과는 한국인과 외국인 간에 차이가 발견되었다. 본 연구결과는 국내 외국인 밀집지역에 거주하는 외국인의 범죄두려움 인식 기제에 관한 새로운 발견점을 제시하며, 외국인 밀집지역의 무질서 수준을 낮추기 위한 정책적 함의를 제안한다.

Abstract

Based on reassurance model, social disorder model, and vulnerability model, this study explored the mediating mechanism by which trust in police leads to fear of crime through perceived disorder in the context of foreigner-dense districts. The difference between Koreans and foreigners in such a mediation process was also explored. Based on the secondary data from the "2019 National Crime Victimization Survey" by the Korean Institute of Criminology, we found the mediating role of perceived disorder in the relationship between trust in police and fear of crime. This mediation effect did not vary depending on respondents’ nationality. On the other hand, differences in the direct effect of trust in police on fear of crime were found between Koreans and foreigners. The results of this study provide a new perspective on the mechanism by which foreigners living in foreigner-dense districts in Korea perceive their fear of crime.
