국내 거주 외국인의 지역 공동체 의식이 경찰신뢰에 미치는 영향 : 체감안전도의 조절효과를 중심으로

Abstract

This study sought to investigate the relationship between the local community consciousness and police trust among foreigners living in Korea, which has not been discussed so far, by applying the Western ‘expressive model’. Specifically, we attempted to examine the structural influence relationship between foreigners’ local community consciousness, perception of public safety, and police trust, and verified the causal influence between local community consciousness and police trust according to specific levels of perception of public safety. For this purpose, ‘an environmental survey(for foreigners) of areas densely populated with foreigners’ was used, and the specific analysis results are as follows. First of all, local community consciousness and perception of public safety both had a significant positive(+) effect on police trust. However, the moderating effect of perception of public safety was significant negative(-) effect, showing that it played an inhibitory role in the causal relationship between local community consciousness and police trust. These results show that multi-layered efforts to strengthen social bonds and community consciousness for foreigners and police administration closely focused on foreigners to ensure perception of safety at an individual level need to be implemented in parallel. Furthermore, it suggested that interpersonal crime prevention policies may be required for foreigners with a high level of perception of public safety above a certain level.
