본 연구의 목적은 보호관찰관과의 관계가 소년의 비행에 미치는 영향에 대하여 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국형사정책연구원에서 보호관찰을 받고 있는 소년 458명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사 자료를 활용하였다. 분석결과에 의하면 보호관찰관과의 유대는 보호자 및 친구와의 애착을 통제한 상태에서 소년의 사이버 비행과 흡연을 유의미하게 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 보호관찰관과의 관계는 보호자애착과 폭력 비행의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 보호관찰관과의 유대가 강한 소년의 경우 보호자 애착이 증가할수록 폭력 비행이 급격히 감소한 반면, 보호관찰관과의 유대가 약한 소년의 경우 보호자 애착이 증가하더라도 소년의 폭력 비행은 감소하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 소년의 비행 예방을 위해서 보호관찰관의 역할이 중요함을 보여주는 것이며, 소년보호관찰에서 소년에게 제공하는 프로그램 구성 시 보호관찰관의 역할을 재정립해야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다. 특히, 보호관찰관이 담당 소년과의 만남 횟수를 단순히 늘리는 것이 아니라 소년과의 긍정적인 상호작용을 가질 때 소년의 비행을 감소시킬 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of the current study is to examine the influence of attachment to probation officers on delinquency, using data of 458 juveniles on probation. According to the analyses, attachment to probation officers significantly decreased cyber delinquency and smoking, after controlling for attachment to parents and peers. In addition, the relationship with probation officers had moderating effects on the relationship between parental attachment and violent delinquency. When parental attachment increased, violent delinquency decreased for juveniles who had strong attachment to probation officers, while for those with weak attachment to probation officers, any changes in parental attachment was not significantly related to changes in violent delinquency. The findings imply that probation officers play significant roles in preventing delinquency of adolescences on probation. Moreover, juvenile probation offices should reconsider the influence of probation officers when they provide programs for the youth on probation. For example, juvenile probation officers should focus more on the quality of interactions between them and the juveniles than numbers of contacts with the youth to prevent delinquency more effectively.
