Abstract
The purpose of this study is to focus on the significance of procedural justice theory on understanding the “cognitive and psychological pathways” that increase procedural fairness affects the enhancement of police cooperation intentions. To verify this relationship, based on prior research, the lawfulness and trust in police were selected as dual mediation variables. This dual mediation model was established to understand in detail the psychological pathways that increased awareness of procedural fairness leads to the enhancement of police cooperation intentions. First, the path where perception of procedural fairness predicts police cooperation intentions was not statistically significant. Second, the mediating effect of the lawfulness in the relationship between perception of procedural fairness and police cooperation intention was not statistically significant. Third, the complete mediating effect of police trust was statistically significant in the relationship between the perception of procedural fairness and the police cooperation intention. Fourth, in the relationship between perception of procedural fairness and police cooperation intention, the dual mediating effect of lawfulness and trust in police was statistically significant. The results of this study more clearly verified the relationship between variables through structural equation models that are not well utilized in previous studies. Also, It is significant in that this study empirically verified what cognitive and psychological pathways the perception of procedural fairness affects citizens' voluntary cooperation intentions through dual mediation models.
