초록

아직 생소한 부르디외의 국가론은 그것이 그의 이론 전반에서 갖는 위상과, 그럼에도 불구하고 국가의 의미와 위치와 관련해 개념적 혼선이 존재한다는 점, 그리고 상징권력과 주체의 관계와 관련한 몇 가지 문제가 발견된다는 점에서 본격적으로 논의될 필요성이 제기된다. 이 문제의식을 염두에 두고, 이 글은 부르디외 국가론의 열린 재구성을 목적으로 설정한다. 구체적으로 우선 이 글은 정태적 시각에서 부르디외의 국가를 ‘제자리’에 위치지우는 작업을 시도한다. 이 작업은 아직도 명료화되지 않은 부르디외의 국가가 사회공간 내에서 장, 권력장, 그리고 정치장과 어떻게 관계맺는지에 관한 지형도를 제시한다. 다음으로 이 글은 부르디외 국가론의 핵심이라고 할 수 있는 상징자본, 상징권력, 상징폭력을 중심으로 보다 동태적인 국가의 행위와 그것이 갖는 사회학적 함의를 논의한다. 마지막으로 이 글은 그의 국가론이 어떠한 문제를 드러내고 있는지 검토한다. 이 비판적 검토는 상징권력과 행위주체의 문제를 중심으로 이루어지며, 이를 통해 이 글은 부르디외 국가론의 생산적 외연의 확장을 전망한다.

Abstract

Bourdieu’s state theory, which is not well known in Korean academia, needs to be reviewed given that its status with regards to the entirety of his social theory is pivotal, that in spite of this there have been conceptual confusions regarding the meaning and the location of the state, and that there are some problems concerning the relationship between symbolic power and subject in his state theory. Keeping in mind these needs, this article aims at an open reconstruction of Bourdieu’s state theory. More specifically, first and from a rather static perspective, this article attempts to pinpoint the proper location of the state in social space. This work proposes a contour map of how the state makes relationship with fields, field of power, and political field, which has not been discussed in its own terms. Next, from a more dynamic angle, this article, focusing on his central theoretical concepts of symbolic capital, symbolic power, and symbolic violence, discusses some sociological implications of the practices of the state. Lastly, this article reveals some problems in his state theory. This work revolves around the issue of the relationship between symbolic power and subject, which anticipates a productive extension of Bourdieu’s state theory.
