‘오직 성서’에 대한 교부신학적 변론 : 니사의 그레고리우스의 상승의 해석학을 중심으로

초록

‘오직 성서’는 종교개혁의 신학을 대변하는 표어인가? 이 구호의 역사적 기원에 대한 탐구는 종교개혁자들이 이 문구를 일종의 신학 원리로 발전시킨 것은 아님을 보여준다. 그런데도 ‘오직 성서’라는 원리가 종교개혁의 정신에 뿌리를 두고 있음은 분명하다. 헹크 판 덴 벨트(Henk van den Belt) 는 ‘오직’이라는 단어의 의미를 ‘우위성’(首位, primacy)으로 해석할 때 ‘오직 성서’는 ‘오직 은혜’와 ‘오직 믿음’과 함께 종교개혁의 신학을 대변한다고 주장한다. 그러나 ‘오직 성서’에 대한 해석학적, 신학적 비판도 간과될 수 없다. 마르턴 비서(Maarten Wisse)에 따르면 이 구호는 해석 주체의 해석 권력을 은폐하면서 정당화하는 수단이 되었으며, 신학자들을 게으르게 한다. 무엇보다 특정한 해석 주체가 유일한 참된 신학과 해석을 가지고 있다는 식으로 ‘오직 성서’가 사용되는 것은 기독론적 사건의 유일성과 하나님의 초월성에 대한 이해 부족이다. 비서의 실천적이고 신학적인 날카로운 비판을 고려할 때, 우리에게 성서는 어떤 의미에서 여전히 ‘오직’일 수 있는가? 본 논문은 니사의 그레고리우스(Gregory of Nyssa, c.335~c.395)의 『팔복 강해』 (De beatitudinibus) 에 나타난 상승의 해석학을 하나님의 형상으로서의 인간에 대한 이해와신격화로서의 구원 이해에 기초하여 연구함으로써 비서의 비판에 응답하고 ‘오직 성서’의 의미를 찾고자 한다. 그레고리우스의 상승의 해석학을 따를 때, 성서는 해석자를 하나님의 에네르게이아, 즉 그리스도께서 보이신덕을 모방함으로 하나님을 닮아가는 하나님의 형상으로 회복시켜 하나님께로 상승하게 하는 유일하고 충분한 하나님의 계시이다.

Abstract

Is ‘sola scriptura’ a slogan representing the theology of the Reformation? An investigation into the historical origin of this slogan shows that the Reformers did not develop it as a theological principle. Nevertheless, it is clear that the principle of ‘sola scriptura’ is rooted in the Reformation. Henk van den Belt says, when the meaning of the word 'sola' is interpreted as 'primacy', ‘sola scriptura’, along with 'sola gratia' and ‘sola fide’, accurately represents theology of the Reformation. However, hermeneutical and theological criticism of ‘sola scriptura’ cannot be overlooked. According to Maarten Wisse, this slogan covers up and justifies hermeneutical power of a particular interpreter, and makes theologians lazy. Furthermore, if ‘sola scriptura’ signifies that a particular subject of interpreting has the only true theology and interpretation, it is a lack of understanding of the uniqueness of Christ’s incarnation and the transcendence of God. In what sense can scripture still be ‘sola’ to us in consideration of the practical and theological criticism of Wisse? The present paper will respond to the criticism of Wisse and define the meaning of ‘sola scriptura’ through research of Gregory of Nyssa (c.335–c.395). According to Gregory's anagogic(ἀναγωγικός) hermeneutics which is found in De beatitudinibus, Scripture is the only and sufficient revelation of God by which the interpreter ascends to God by restoration of the image of God through imitating Christ's virtues, God’s energeia.
