이 글은 심미적 이성 개념을 검토하면서 예술과 독자의 상관관계를 살펴보는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 예술은 독자에 대한 창작자의 선도적인 우위를 전제한다. 하지만 예술의 역할이 상대적으로 제한적인 대중사회에서 예술작품의 선도적인 매개성이 의심받고 있다. 무엇보다 독자의 수용 자체가 매우 미비하다. 이 글에서는 심미적 이성에 대한 존재론적 해명을 통해 예술작품과 독자의 매개적 역할에 주목한다. 이 글이 심미적 이성에 주목하는 이유는 심미적 판단과 관련된 이성의 역할이 예술작품과 독자의 매개 관계를 촉진한다고 보기 때문이다. 따라서 이 글의 결론은 심미적인 특성과 이성적인 성찰의 적극적인 작용이 대중사회의 문제점을 극복하는 하나의 기능임을 밝히는 것이다. 이 같은 결론을 입증하기 위해 이 글은 칸트의 센수스 코뮤니스 개념에서 작동하는 사유 확장의 가능성을 살펴보고, 소통적 진리와 연결시킨다. 더 나아가 매개적 소통에서 소통적 진리가 독자를 필요로 하는 이유를 설명한다. 이 과정을 통해 대중사회에서 차지하는 예술의 긍정적인 역할을 강조한다.
Abstract
The paper aims at examining the relationship between art and the reader through takinginto account the idea of aesthetic reason. The leading role of artist through artwork hasbeen presupposed in any discourse on art. However, the reception of the meaning of artworkby readers has been very poor. In this paper I shall try to focus on mediating roles ofartwork and the importance of the reader through developing ontological elucidation about aestheticreason in which the deliberative ethos has been a pivotal role in understanding the meaningof work of art. It is one of my conclusions that the working of the aesthetic with the deliberativeactivity on it will serve the basis for overcoming the difficulties of mass society. To illustratethis, I shall concentrate on Kant’s idea of sensus communis which is undertaken to an enlargedmentality of thinking and its relation to truth as communicability. And I shall show howaesthetic reason calls for the active participation of the reader. In doing so, it will be revealedthat the beautiful still have a positive role to transform mass society.
