이 논문은 앤드류 안 감독의 <결혼 피로연>(2025)을 주역적 관점에서 분석함으로써 퀴어 서사의 새로운 해석 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 이안 감독의 원작<결혼 피로연>(1993)과 앤드류 안 감독의 <결혼 피로연>(2025)를 비교 분석함으로써 각 시대의 변화에 따라 괘와 효가 영화에서 구현되는 차이점을 살펴보았다. <결혼 피로연>(2025)의 한국의 전통 혼례 장면은 주역의 음양과 괘를 시각적으로 구현하며, 결혼 제도와 동성애자들의 성 정체성, 진정한 결혼의 의미를 관객들에게 되묻는다. 게이 커플인 민과 크리스, 레즈비언 커플인 안젤라와 리 그리고 그들의 두 아이로 구성된 가족은 이 시대의 가족의 의미를 재정의한다. 그리고 이러한 과정의 중심에는 결혼과 가족에 대한 전통적 가치관 대신 새로운 가치관을 수용하는 민의 할머니가 있다. 결론적으로 <결혼 피로연>(2025)은 성 소수자들의 성 정체성 문제를 다룬 단순한 퀴어 서사가 아니라 선택된 가족이 이 시대의 진정한 가족이 될 수 있음을 보여주는 새로운 의미의 가족 서사이다.
Abstract
This paper explores the potential for new interpretations of queer narratives by analyzing Andrew Ahn's remake, The Wedding Banquet(2025), from the perspective of the Book of Changes. To this end, we first compare and analyze Ang Lee's original, The Wedding Banquet(1993), with Andrew Ahn's The Wedding Banquet(2025), examining the differences in how the concepts of hexagrams and Hyo(爻) piety are portrayed in the film, reflecting the changing times. The traditional Korean wedding scene in The Wedding Banquet(2025) visually embodies the yin and yang and hexagrams of the Book of Changes, prompting the audience to question the institution of marriage, the identity of gays and lesbians, and the true meaning of marriage. The family of Min, Chris, Angela, Lee, and their two children redefines the meaning of family in this era. At the center of this process is Min's grandmother, who embraces new values for marriage and family, replacing traditional values. Through this, the film redefines the meaning of family. In conclusion, Wedding Banquet(2025) is not a simple queer narrative that deals with the issue of sexual identity, but a family narrative with a new meaning that shows that a chosen family can become a true family in this era.
