본 논문은 류전웨이(劉鎭偉) 감독의 『천하무쌍(天下無雙)』(Chinese Odyssey)이라는 영화에서, 사랑 이야기를 풀어가며 활용하는 이미지에 대한 분석을 통해 중국인들이 세계를 해석하는 한 방식을 엿보려는 데 목적이 있다. 통상 이 세계에 대한 ‘해석들’은 엄밀히 말해 특정한 인식론적 형식에 종속적이며, 그 특정한 인식론적 형식은 이 세계를 어떠한 것으로 보아내도록 끊임없이 우리를 추동한다. 결국 해석된 세계의 의미란 사물 본래의 모습이라기보다는, 이미 그러한 해석을 낳는 인식 형식에 의거하여 이미-읽혀진-세계이다. 따라서 우리가 주목해야 할 지점은 텍스트의 표면에 드러난 세계의 의미 재구가 아니라, 세계를 그러한 모습으로 해석하는 주체의 인식 형식과 상상적 논리의 문제이다. 그런 의미에서 이 글은 역으로, 『천하무쌍』이라는 영화를 통해 현대 중국인들의 내면에 잠재되어 있는 세계를 바라보는 인식론적 틀을 살펴보기 위한 하나의 시론이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is aimed at looking for a way of interpreting the world by the Chinese people through the analysis of the image which is used for the love story in 『天下無雙』(Chinese Odyssey), directed by Jeffrey Lau. Generally speaking, ‘interpretations’ of the world must be subordinated in a certain kind of epistemological types, which in turn pushes continuously us to choose the way of seeing the world. The meaning of the world interpreted in the end does not reflect the true form of the world but is rather made in his or her unique perception process. Considering this, what matters is not the reconstruction of the meaning of the world which is just shown on the surface of a text but the understanding and imagination of the subject who interprets the world for his favored view. In that sense, this study works as a tool to confirm an epistemological thinking that the modern Chinese have in their mind when they see the world through the movie.
