본 연구는 21세기 시대적 변화에 따른 학교 현장에서 중요시 되고 있는 감성지능을 고찰함과 더불어 미국과 한국의 교사들의 감성 능력을 측정, 비교, 분석하여 한국 교육의 문제점과 시사점을 탐색하는데 의의가 있다. 이전의 연구는 감성지능과 개인 간의 관련 변인들을 밝혀내는데 주를 이루었다. 본 연구는 이런 경향을 벗어나 교사 측면을 강조하여 새로운 감성 연구의 방향 전환을 꾀하였다. 이 연구를 수행하기 위해 미국의 교사 52명과 한국의 교사 50명을 대상으로 Bar-On의 EQ-I 도구를 활용하여 두 집단 간의 상관도와 하위요인별 차이 정도를 분석하였다. 분석 결과 미국 교사들의 감성능력이 한국의 교사들보다 15-20점정도 모든 영역에서 우위로 나타났다. 이는 한국의 교육시스템과 한국적 문화 성향의 영향으로 인한 결과이며 이를 타개하기 위한 제도적 장치와 정책을 추진할 필요성이 있으며 교사 양성에 있어서도 인지적 능력과 함께 감성적 요인을 중시하여 교육과정에 적극 반영할 수 있는 노력이 절실히 요청된다. 또한 한국형 감성을 측정할 수 있는 도구의 개발도 시급하다.
Abstract
During two decade, a lot of study have been conducted emotional intelligence about individual variables. However, there have not been taken into account a variety of culture on them. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate into measuring, comparing,analyzing emotional intelligence about teacher's cultural variables between Korean teachers and American teachers in Elementary School. Data were collected from 52 American teachers and 50 Korean teachers in Elementary school. The sample included 61 male and 41female who have experienced with an average of 16.24 years. Research questions are as follows. First, What degrees of correlations exist among the EQ-I scales? Second, Are there different among each scale of the EQ-I between two countries?Several significant relationships between American and Korean teacher were found. First, according to comparing the means of the two counties, American’s emotional abilities were 15-20 points higher than Korean’s in all emotional intelligence domains. The researcher found these differences are derived from the educational system of the each country. Second, there are taken into account a nation of culture to measure emotional ability accurately.
