Abstract
Dualism and physicalism have been acutely opposed to the relationship between the mind and the body, or between the mind and the brain. This confrontation seems to be shifting in favor of physicalism as neuroscience develops rapidly. This article examines whether dualism can be a progressive research program in neuroscience in these intellectual situations. First, it is argued that it is difficult to explain the phenomenological consciousness in neuroscience combined physicalism due to the explanatory gap. Then, two approaches to establish neuro-dualism are examined. Finally, downward causation, a main factor for neuro-dualism to become a core of progressive research program, is discussed in the context of embedded mind theory and neurophenomenology.
