This thesis attempts to construct a theory of translation and to develop a translation model through investigating the Chinese-to-Korean translation process based on text linguistics theory. We summarize the study of text type in text linguistics; analyze the problems of studying text type in translation studies; explain the basic concepts of text type classification; and suggest a text type classification model based on Brinker's theme development models (for example, the descriptive theme development model, explanatory theme development model, and argumentative theme development model.)In chapter 3, we describe specific translation strategies for various text types such as newspapers and articles classified by theme development models. This is particularly important because it can be helpful for Chinese translation to understand and represent the meaning of a text.
